The decision not to renew the contract of former Middletown Township Manager Raymond Stepnoski cost Middletown taxpayers nearly $103,000, officials said.

Stepnoski's severance package was released by the township Thursday after requests from the newspaper.

Under the terms of his contract, Stepnoski received $59,569, or six months salary, following his exit, officials said. The former manager also received $17,774 in unused vacation time, $16,911 in unused sick time and $8,407 in accumulated compensatory time, according to the township.

Stepnoski was manager for two years. In July, the supervisors voted not to renew his contract. Board members said they hoped to renegotiate with him and hopefully save money.

Stepnoski was making $124,897 a year at that point.
